📊 Terms Made Simple
Budget Allocation: Industry percentages for where wedding money goes — venue/catering takes ~50%, photography ~12%, attire ~8%, etc. These are starting points you can adjust.
Buffer/Contingency: Budget 5-10% for surprise costs. Things WILL come up — last-minute rentals, alterations, tips, overtime charges. Without a buffer, you go over budget guaranteed.
Cost Per Guest: Total budget ÷ guest count. This is the single most important number. At $30K with 120 guests, you're at $250/head. Cut 20 guests and that jumps to $300/head — better food, better experience.
Vendor Deposits: Most vendors require 25-50% upfront. On a $30K wedding, that's $7,500-15,000 in deposits before the big day. Budget for cash flow, not just total cost.
