How To Use
๐ Getting Started
1
Log Every Leak
Count, type (stress vs urge), and trigger. "3 stress leaks when sneezing" is diagnostic data. Your PT needs this pattern.
2
Track Kegel Consistency
Streak matters more than perfection. 12 consecutive days of Kegels builds real strength. One set = 10 squeezes, 3-5 second hold, 3x/day.
3
Rate Impact Honestly
Pressure, pain, urgency, sexual function โ all on 0-10. "It's not that bad" is what everyone says. The numbers tell the truth.
4
See a Pelvic Floor PT
NOT a regular physical therapist. Pelvic floor PT is specialized โ they assess internally and create targeted programs. Find one at pelvicrehab.com.
๐ Terms
Stress Incontinence: Leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, jump, or lift. Caused by weak pelvic floor muscles that can't support the bladder under pressure. Most common type. Very treatable with PT.
Urge Incontinence: Sudden, intense need to urinate with leaking before reaching the toilet. "Overactive bladder." Caused by nerve signaling issues, not just weakness. Treatment: bladder training + sometimes medication.
Prolapse: Pelvic organs dropping due to weak support. Symptoms: pressure/heaviness, bulge feeling, pulling sensation. Grades I-IV. Grade I-II often managed with PT and pessary. Not always surgical.
Hypertonic PF: Pelvic floor that's TOO TIGHT (not too weak). Causes: pain with sex, difficulty emptying bladder, chronic pelvic pain. Kegels make this WORSE. PT teaches you to RELAX, not squeeze.
