How To Use
Track breastfeeding with data — not anxiety
🚀 Getting Started
1
Log Each Feeding
Number of feeds today and average duration. Newborns: 8-12 feeds/day. By 3 months: 7-9 feeds/day. Duration decreases as baby gets more efficient.
2
Track Output Signs
Wet diapers (6+ per day = adequate intake), pump output if pumping, and baby weight. These are your "is baby getting enough" indicators.
3
Rate Latch & Pain
Pain after the first 1-2 weeks is NOT normal. Score your latch and pain — if pain is above 3 after week 2, see a lactation consultant. Could be tongue tie, poor positioning, or thrush.
4
Watch the Trends
Supply score, weight gain, and diaper output over time. One bad day doesn't mean low supply — look at the 3-day average.
📊 Terms Made Simple
Letdown: The reflex that releases milk. Triggered by baby suckling, hearing baby cry, or pumping. Can take 30-60 seconds. Multiple letdowns per session = good supply.
Cluster Feeding: Baby feeding every 30-60 min for several hours, usually evenings. Happens at weeks 3, 6, and 12 (growth spurts). This is NORMAL and boosts supply — not a sign of low milk.
Supply = Demand: The #1 rule of breastfeeding. More removal (nursing or pumping) = more production. Skipping feeds or pumps WILL decrease supply. Consistency matters more than duration.
EP (Exclusively Pumping): Feeding baby only pumped breast milk. Requires pumping every 2-3 hours (8+ times/day) to maintain supply. More demanding than direct nursing but a valid choice.

🤱 SUPPLY SCIENCE
"Low Supply" Is Massively Over-Diagnosed
Only ~5% of women have true low supply. The rest? Poor latch, not enough feeds, or pump anxiety. Track the RIGHT metrics and see if you actually have a supply problem — or a data problem.
💧
6+ Wet Diapers = Enough Milk
The single most reliable indicator of adequate intake
⚖️
5-7oz/Week Weight Gain
Track weekly — daily weights are misleading

🧴
Pump Output ≠ Supply
Babies are more efficient than any pump — don't judge supply by pump
